Vermillion, South Dakota - Spirit Mound

Spirit Mound is a historic site, one that Lewis and Clark visited because they had heard from local Indians that "little devils" inhabited the mound. Currently, efforts are underway to restore the site to its original appearance, featuring prairie grasses and other native plants. [Michelle Rogge Gannon, 09/02/2003]
