Daniel Boone statue.

Daniel Boone - Pioneer Giant

There's a statue resembling an 18th Century pioneer who led settlers from the North into North Carolina. Presently the centerpiece of a funky (but well-known) antiques mall -- The Shops at Daniel Boone Village -- in Hillsborough, a town founded in 1752 and an important Colonial center for trade and state government.

And just north of that statue is a replica Indian village, hidden in the woods...

A Boone, not a Bunyan.

Daniel Boone - Pioneer Giant

Attached is a photograph of the "Southern-style cowboy giant." The giant is in fact Daniel Boone himself. Or the North Carolina version of Daniel Boone, standing on top of a map to the Daniel Boone Plaza.

Daniel Boone - Pioneer Giant

I ran across this guy right off I-85 in [Hillsborough] this year. He is at the gate of a "Daniel Boone Antique Center" (right across the street from Hardees).
