Elvis' birthplace is a small cottage with two really small rooms -- you can easily miss it once you find the street. Roughly 380 items from pre-age-13 Elvis are now on display, amid copious amounts of crushed velvet and mirrors. The Museum and Birthplace are now just parts of a 15-acre complex that also includes a bronze statue of teen Elvis, a fountain, a memorial wall, and the actual church where Elvis learned to love gospel music.

Hilary W. writes: "Contemporary photos of the house at the time Elvis would have lived there show a row of typical mill houses. These type of houses were (and sometimes still are) quite common in the South. The family was deeply in debt and skipped town in the middle of the night. This was also a very typical occurrence for those who 'owed their soul to the company store' during this period."
