Blanchard, Louisiana - Poke Salad Festival

The second weekend of May in Blanchard, LA, features a festival honoring a weed. Distant relative of collard greens, poke salad is boiled for a LONG time with a ham hock and server steaming hot. This small town festival features a parade (including local Hog riders) and a street dance. Remember the slogan: "Poke, not pot." [John Osmon, 02/14/2004]
