Gorham, New Hampshire - Train within a Train

Once the railroad capital of the White Mts., Gorham, again sports a unique railroad, this time in the form of a train within a train. The grainery boxcar features a computerized mini Androscoggin Valley train system, reminiscent of the 5 track railroad yard and lines that stretched between Gorham and Berlin, 7 miles north. The entire area has been reproduced with actual moving trains and street trolley. A second box car holds a multitude of old railroad items, many of which are actual pieces used in the area.

The train, which sits on a dead siding along the southern side of the town's public commons, consists of a steam locomotive, coalcar, box cars and caboose. The actual railroad depot stands and serves as the town's historical museum. The cost of admission to these treasures is in donation form. [Sherrel Stephenson, 05/25/1999]
