Port Tobacco, Maryland - Legend of the Blue Dog Port Tobacco Maryland is home to several historic sites, including an old, one-room school house and St. Ignatius Chapel (overlooking the Potomac river), which is the oldest, still practicing Catholic Church in the nation. If you keep driving past the chapel on Port Tobacco Road there is a big house on a hill where a big rock sits near the driveway. Legend says that in the 18th century, a man and his dog were killed at that rock by robbers while walking home from a pub one night. Locals swear that at night, you can hear the dog howling, and a
large blue ghost dog appears over the rock. I grew up near here and we were taught the legend in school.
