Kinnelon, New Jersey - Pole Toppers

Look to the skies! There are two stretches where you can see "pole toppers" on the southbound side of Route 23. One is in Kinnelon, just past the 19-mile marker: it starts at the sign for Smoke Rise. On top of almost a dozen phone poles you'll see a menagerie including a pink pig, a pink flamingo and other birds, a bowling pin, a big plastic snowman, a mailbox (with the flag up; wonder what's inside?) and other stuff.

There's another stretch of pole toppers in Oak Ridge, NJ, also on the southbound side of Route 23, which includes a giant "Mr. Peanut" and other interesting ephemera. [Paul Havemann, 05/02/1999]
