We took a detour off our family vacation to eat here, only to find that they are now out of business and closed their doors about a week ago. So sad; we were really looking forward to seeing the vault and memorabilia. At least we got to see the Smiley Face Water Tower on our way in and out of town.

The Gangsters Grill is a really cool place with amazing food and fantastic service. They let me go back and see the safe, and it was still the exact same as it was when Dillinger robbed it.

What a cool place of history, along with great food. It's called Gangsters Grill, and the staff was great, showing us the original bank door and the safe that Dillinger robbed, which is still in use in the bar.
[Mari, 04/15/2011]This old bank, converted to a restaurant, was robbed by John Dillinger during his criminal days. The restaurant has newspaper clippings on the placemats, and other paraphernalia on the walls about the town, the bank and Dillinger. Also has a mannequin of a bank robber perched overhead, looking down upon the patrons.
