Confederate President Jeff Davis' Home

For a real stroll down racist lane, I can't think of anywhere better than Ole Jeff Davis' house. I worked at Beauvior Pre-Katrina and very briefly Post-Katrina during the restoration process. Though this is a genuine historical site with a huge significance in the history of the South, it has become little more than a redneck Mecca. Post-Restoration Beauvior is lame to say the least.

Beauvoir, Jefferson Davis Home

Beauvoir, The Jefferson Davis Home has re-opened for business on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast this past June. The house suffered 40% damage (loss of porches, roof damage, etc.) from Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The two cottages, the President Library and reproduction barracks were totally wiped out.

A new white picket fence now surrounds the property and replicas of the cottages are being built. Plans are for a new presidential library to be built out of the flood plain. A rose garden laid out has been marked out like the one set out by Mrs. Davis but lost to time. The goal is to return the Beauvoir property to the 1880s when Jefferson Davis lived there.

Beauvoir is also one of two or three antebellum homes on the beach that survived Katrina -- go see it as soon as possible.
