Kid Valley, Washington: Bigfoot and the Buried A-Frame

On the way to sometimes-cranky volcano Mount St. Helens, stop to admire a very 28-ft. tall statue of Bigfoot and a home half-buried in volcanic mud.

Bigfoot Statue

Pictures online are pretty cool, but you really don't get how big this Bigfoot is until you see it in person. We thought it was well worth the drive. Too bad the gift shop was so lame; not one postcard of the statue!

Bigfoot and the Buried A-Frame

It's a 20 foot tall statue of bigfoot! What else do you need to know?

Bigfoot appears the same as when we last visited... but that plywood Bigfoot clutching the coffee seems like his armload of hot dogs has been edited!

Buried A Frame (and Bigfoot)

The Buried A frame is now full of water and fenced off. You can no longer walk through it.

Bigfoot and the Buried A-Frame

The site of the "big" Bigfoot and Buried A-Frame house is for sale. You can no longer walk through the Buried A-Frame house, as the lower level is flooded and pretty rank with who knows what; the upper level looking as though it wants to give up and come crashing down already.

The gift shop is still doing a brisk business (I spent $18 there on doodads and gemgaws pretty easily, including the recommended "Story of Harry R. Truman"), and as long as Bigfoot stands it'll probably be a money-maker for whomever buys it...if someone buys it.

Our favorite souvenir in this region is a cap labeled "Famous Ash Hole," which we found in a gift shop opposite the defunct Experience The Eruption Cinedome Theater.
