Wilson, North Carolina: Muffler Man (Gone)

The White's Tire on Goldsboro Street is closed and for sale or rent. I wonder if the price includes the Muffler Man?

Last Friday, September 25, 1998, I needed to go to Wilson NC. I checked both the web site and the book for points of interest. Finding none either place, I left my real cameras at home. My wife was thrilled. There would be no setting up a tripod in the middle of a busy street and exchanging hand gestures with local drivers. But as we were driving out of Wilson I got lost and suddenly there before me was a muffler man on the roof of White's Tire Service. I stopped and began taking photos with my small emergency backup camera. A man came out and ask what I was doing. Not wanting to call it a "muffler man" to the probably lifelong "tire man," I told him I was interested "big guy on the roof." The tire man told me the company had one twice that big at their other store. The moral to the story is: it is better to have a camera and not need it than to need it and not have it.
