Makanda, Illinois - Smiley Face Water Tower The Makanda Water Tower [one of the Smiley Face Water Towers] has been repainted with a bow tie being added to the smiley face. The bow tie is in memory of Senator Paul Simon, a life long resident of Makanda. [Sue Henry, 08/28/2007]
The Smiley Face water tower in Makanda, Illinois, underwent a recent facelift that included a salute to the late US Senator Paul Simon, who hailed from that town.
