The shoe tree (as described in the first three posts) was cut down (presumably by vandals) in early 2010.
[Kathy, 04/25/2011]Just north of town on F-97 stands a shoe tree. I am unaware of its origin.
[Debbie, 11/24/2004]I saw this shoe tree on county road M-97 about three miles north of St. Helen, Michigan. It seems to be a young tree, there were between forty and fifty pairs of shoes, but it may grow some with the continuation of the tourist season.
