- US Hwy 31 north into Elk Rapids. Cross the bridge, then make an immediate right onto Ames St., which becomes Cairn Hwy. At the top of Elk Lake, Cairn Hwy becomes a left-hand turn instead of going straight; watch for it. Stay on Cairn Hwy. The pyramid is a mile or so north of the turn, on the right.

There's a cairn of rocks outside Elk Rapids that was built in 1938 with each rock inscribed with the name of one of the counties in Michigan. It's located right on the 45th parallel as well.
