I'm not sure what this is about, but traveling north up highway 83 in northern Illinois and then crossing over the border into Wisconsin, near Salem, Wisconsin you will find a former tree trunk carved into the likeness of a hand throwing a ball.

The hand holding the ball, carved from a tree trunk still rooted in the ground, is a tribute to the 19th century Brass Ball Tavern that once stood at this spot.
