Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin - Painted Rock I grew up in the area, and the painted rock is just one of those local things that everybody knows about... but I haven't found anybody who knows when it started. It's this gigantic rock on the side of a rural highway that people paint with different messages and pictures on a regular basis... painting occurs in the middle of the night (the thrill is better then) and the rock is always changing. Directions: From Wisconsin Rapids take hwy 34 toward Rudolph/Stevens Point. Turn right onto County Hwy. P and follow that to the intersection of County Hwy O, and turn left. Go straight for a while and watch the left hand side of the road... you can't miss it.
