Thornwood, Washington - Personal Tiger Zoo Just off of highway nine on your way out of Sedro-Woolley is Prairie road. If you head down Prairie road about 1/2 a mile, just past the Copenhagen Barn, you will see a small house on the left with what looks like pens out of the movie Jurassic Park behind it, on the left. The house just before this one has a sign in the drive way that says "No Tiger Access." The house with the paddocks behind it has two full grown tigers living there. They also have a few other big cats such as a mountain lion. The Tigers can usually be seen stalking the edge of the cages. These are BIG cats. On Fridays they sometimes open the gates to the area and allow vistors. During last summer they had a sign out saying it cost $5 to view the cats close up. Before that they allowed visitors for free. They will let you pet these cats through the bars of the cage. It's amazing. They owners are usually friendly, but can sometimes be rude. It's hit and miss. But it's really odd to see a homemade zoo in the middle of rural Washington State. [Sean Davis, 02/07/2005]
