Brevard, North Carolina - Brevard's 4th Annual White Squirrel Festival This year's White Squirrel Festival promises to be the nuttiest yet, with the addition of a Squirrel Box Derby race down Jailhouse hill next to the downtown Courthouse. Kids 8 - 17 can race free and adults have to be sponsored by a business. The categories include "Fastest Critter," "Nuttiest," "Squirreliest," and "Road Kill." The overall point winner will receive the coveted "GOLDEN NUT" award, which will be handed down year to year to the best overall participant.
This year will also feature the first ever Miss White Squirrel Beauty Pageant.
We will again offer guided walking tours to see the White Squirrels, as well as two days worth of free concert music downtown. Streets will be closed throughout the downtown area for both Saturday and Sunday to celebrate the famous critters. [Phillip Davis, 02/27/2007]
