We loved this spot! Will come back and stay a night or two. Worth the small detour!
[Sara Petrick, 10/01/2020]It appears that the motel has closed. Its website and phone are not functional.

Didn't stay overnight, but drove by the Tee Pee Motel after our routine Buc-ee's stop. Cute, could use a little freshening up though.

There isn't much to do in Wharton, but staying in the tee pee motel made it worth the trip! The rooms were surprisingly spacious; ours held a full-sized bed, futon, desk, mini fridge, microwave, and a mounted TV. I don't know what folks were talking about with comments on the bed, but maybe that's because I'm used to sleeping in a full and not a king/queen. There were also picnic tables outside and a large fire pit for group events.
I also found some additional history from a Wharton County Visitors Guide (article author Barry Halvorson). The motel was originally designed in 1942 by George and Toppie Belcher, but construction was delayed until 1942 due to WWII rationing. Byron Woods purchased and refurbished the motel, after its being closed for over twenty years, in 2004 and re-opened on October 30, 2006.
