Rapid City, South Dakota: Man Made From Tires (Gone)
Tires painted red, white, and blue have been creatively transformed into smiling envoys of commerce at an automobile tire business. Started as a pair of tire guys -- one remained after 2009; MIA in 2022.
- Directions:
- Outside The Tire Guys. I-90 exit 57 onto I-190/US 16 (Mt Rushmore). Drive 1.5 miles south, then turn left onto Omaha St./Hwy 44 for 1.5 miles. On the right side, just past Waterloo St.

They were built by Ron Tyrrell, who owns the tire shop. He calls them Tire Man and Buddy. Tire Man was built in 1988; Buddy was added in 2005. We asked Ron if he had been influenced by other roadside artists. "Nope. I always had it in my mind to build a man out of tires."
