GMC Strong Man Statue
Homosassa, Florida
A circus strong man stands along Highway 19, his muscles exploding from patriotic bikini briefs as he holds a GMC block letter logo above his head. He's bigger than life, yet almost dwarfed by the big American cars for sale that surround him.
We don't have much info, but he apparently dates back to at least the 1980s, and was probably part of the mini golf that had been in this location. The GMC letters were added "6 or 8 years ago" according to one salesperson. He used to be a milestone on an annual scavenger hunt by local high school seniors.
The statue has been repainted periodically, but he's looking chipped and faded in the merciless Florida sun. We wonder whether this symbol of macho machinery can remain an effective salesman promoting the frail little electric vehicles in everyone's future...
