• Enchanted Forest: The Enchanted Forest in Salem, Oregon — home of the huge witch head — has been ravaged by an ice storm. “When we first saw this it was devastating,” [owner] Tofte said. “But we’ll just have to work like beavers.” The attraction intends to reopen on schedule in March.
• Behold the Unmelted: This is the time of year when ice sculptures and snowmen get all of the press. But freezing cold is helpful to other art as well. Behold – the first butter sculpture of 2009!
• Cars of 1957: The ’57 Heaven museum in Branson, Missouri — a museum comprised solely of cars made in 1957 — is for sale (We felt that it had sold out years ago). The owner refuses to part with the cars individually. The package price: $17 million. Yup, this is the economic climate to cash out your fleet of gas guzzlers….
• Thunderbox!: Community art projects, in which artists each customize a mass-produced fiberglass figure, seem to have grown stale and repetitive since their creative heyday. But Thunderbox in San Antonio, Texas, is a worthy new approach. Vote for your favorite.
