Dead Elvis: Another Milestone Birthday

Headless ElvisElvis Presley: alive for 42 years, dead for 33 years, and tourist attraction for nearly as long. His tributes grow more fabulous with the passage of time, and he remains one of the few celebrities who can be recognized without his head.

It would be too Elvis-indulgent, even for us, to list 75 Elvis attractions on what would have been his 75th birthday.

Seaside Heights, NJ Elvis. But a quick look through our files does show that The King has not one, but two public mini-shrines in his memory; and not one, but two museums that claim to have body parts of Elvis on display; and not one, but two attractions with animals named for Elvis — and they’re an alligator and a monkey.

If you want to measure Elvis’s fame, consider that he’s the only dead celebrity big enough to be transformed into a Muffler Man.

Would Elvis have appreciated all of these personal tributes? We hope so. He’s dead, we’re not, and so all that Elvis fans can do is to continue to honor him in the best way they know how.
