Green Tech May Unleash Spook Light Invasion

Will light bulbs of the future be powered by cars, trains, and landing planes? It’s happening right now in the happy cartoon animation on the web site of Innowattech. This Israeli company wants to embed piezoelectric materials (quartz crystals) into asphalt and concrete, and when tires run over them, electricity will be produced by the company’s trademarked generator, so it claims.

Innowattech animation detail. Many environmental and gadget blogs have gone ga-ga over this “parasitic energy harvesting” (Although at least one noted that “the surface of the street would resemble that of a mud-covered area,” which would make for interesting landings for all of those jet planes).

We have a graver concern: the millions of renegade Spook Lights that this technology could unwittingly unleash.

Those who don’t believe in the spook-ishness of Spook Lights tend to think that the glowing orbs are caused by quartz crystals rubbing together underground — the same kind of crystals that Innowattech wants to spread in the billions along our transportation arteries.

The people who lived along America’s first singing road shut it down because of its noise. Can you imagine their response to cascading waves of bouncing Spook Lights? Well, yes, it would be funny, but there are good reasons why we keep our outside-the-bulb light attractions away from populated areas.
