Artist Doug “Phantom of the Midway” Higley let us know he’s published a fascinating new book of photographs, Museum: Mysteria. Higley is a veteran creator of the carnival and museum “gaff” — fantastical creatures that appear to be authentic. The coffee table-ready 40-page book features high-quality color “photos of many of my most bizarre exhibits,” according to Doug, including “Chupacabras, Bizarre Mermaids, Shrunken Heads, Atomic Fish, and Weird Mummies.”
In our travels we’ve seen a surprising number of his mutant spawn on display (mixed in among the authentic monsters, of course).
Some of the book’s images are reproduced in 3-D, so Higley thoughtfully included a pair of 3-D glasses. Museum: Mysteria can be ordered here.
Doug Higley’s book, Museum: Mysteria is a great addition to your home, your coffee table. Beautifully printed with some of the most fascinating photographs you have ever seen, the book will capture the imaginations of all your guests, and will certainly provoke questions and spark conversation. The 3-D photos are incomparable and enhance the value of the book. If you have any interest at all in the unusual, the out-of-the-ordinary, this book is for you!
I strongly agree with Mr. Ligon. This book is a gem. Not only are the photographs startling and strangely beautiful, but the written text which accompanies the images is spot on. It’s like taking a trip to some Cryptozoological Wonderland. Highly recommended. I would also suggest checking out Higley’s book on dark rides. Another gem.
