Forget your monolith Marys and your fancy pagan ladies — there’s a new goddess scraping the heavens. It’s Mago!
Mago is 39 feet tall, exactly one foot higher than the roof of the Catholic church across the street, which is possibly not an accident.
Mago was erected in the Arizona desert on the outskirts of Cottonwood. But she owes her existence to the neighboring, harmonically converged town of Sedona, where a self-described “brain educator” named Ilchi Lee runs an Asian-flavored relaxation retreat.
According to Lee’s followers, Mago is the Korean soul of Mother Earth. Clad in a white robe, with a small planet Earth suspended between her hands, her statue stands just off of US 89 in “Mago Earth Park,” which also has smaller statues of people such as Confucius, Socrates, Dahn-Gun (a Korean philosopher), and an Indian with a big feathered headdress. Confucius and Dahn-Gun have been rendered as squat, big-headed characters that look like Korean versions of Super Mario Bros. There’s also a big Kokopelli, surrounded by small statues of children running toward it. The children are all monochromatic: some are all-blue, some all-green.
The supporters of Mago Earth Park think it’s wonderful. It also serves as an eye-catching billboard for the brain education information center next to the park. Visitors will be able to take a free shuttle van 45 minutes up a dirt road into the desert to the relaxation retreat, which according to Lee has “the greatest vortex energy on the planet.”
So a visiting kid comes a long and craps in the pool. The local kids are outraged and want the kid to clean up his mess. The kid thumbs his nose at them. The visiting kid’s friends then tell the locals they are lucky the kid gave such a wonderful contribution to the community. Locals force the kid to clean up his mess and then throw him out of the pool. His friends then try to cause a huge racket over his removal.

She is being removed!! Just one more reason I can’t wait to move from this area! Don’t come here tourists!!
