Quirky Tourist Attractions in or near Tennessee
While in Tennessee, you might enjoy a visit to:
More shakers than you can shake a shaker at. 20,000 pairs collected by archaeologist Andrea Ludden. Shakers shaped like skulls, witches, tombstones, toilets, human feet!
But not forbidden to you. This show cave was used as a hideout to make moonshine until 1943, which perhaps explains its current name. Open to the public since 1967, when its name was Blowing Cave.
One of the oldest motels in town. Formerly with fake teepee fronts at the entrance to each rustic cabin, but these have dwindled to a handful. The motel was featured in the 1998 Kevin Bacon film, "Digging to China."
A rural living museum that surprises with devil burls, angel swirls, Apocalypse signage, and a full-size perpetual motion machine. 65 acres, several buildings, 250,000 items.
