Quirky Tourist Attractions in or near South Dakota
While in South Dakota, you might enjoy a visit to:
Weary Wil, hobo king of SDSU's Hobo Day, is immortalized as a nine-foot-tall bronze statue by alumnus David Anderson, who later added a 1960s hippie chick, Dirty Lil. An adjacent Hobo Day Gallery features a restored 1912 "Bummobile."
A 30-foot-long codfish is named Lou T. Fisk and represents what wouldn't seem to be a hotly contested claim to fame. Lutefisk is a Nordic delicacy combining dried cod and lye. Yum.
Bunyan had a boat? Apparently. A big granite slab on a crude giant coat hanger sits next to the Stone County Museum.
Hero the circus elephant finally decided he'd had enough. The town museum displays artifacts of that bloody day.
