Quirky Tourist Attractions in or near Kentucky
While in Kentucky, you might enjoy a visit to:
The town of Horse Cave was literally built around the giant sinkhole of Hidden River Cave. America's most polluted cave was then cleaned up and opened to tourists.
A majestic temple-like building on a hill shelters a battered, ancient log cabin in a big empty room with nothing else in it. The building covers Abe's real birth site, but the cabin is just for show -- it isn't Abe's.
Nathan Bedford Forrest was a Confederate general, slave trader, and a big honcho with the early KKK. The privately-owned statue made the news in Dec. 2017 when vandals painted it pink.
Frank Sutton played the Marine sergeant who always yelled at Gomer Pyle. His hometown immortalized him with a bronze statue in his familiar pose.
