Quirky Tourist Attractions in or near Kansas
While in Kansas, you might enjoy a visit to:
Monument to the woman who, as a girl, got Lincoln to grow a beard. Delphos has also had visits from a UFO and a Wolf Girl, but you have to ask about them at the Delphos Museum.
Boston Corbett shot John Wilkes Booth, then moved to Kansas to live in in a hole in the ground. There's a monument -- built by Boy Scouts -- and beyond a gate stands a lonely sign to mark Boston's hole.
Visitors are whisked 65 stories below ground to tour vast salt galleries on electric trams.
Florence Deeble built a miniature replica of Mount Rushmore in her back yard. Anyone who wants to wander in probably can, but it's more fun to take a tour of the yard and house with the Grassroots Art Center, which is only two blocks away.
