Artist Fashions Melted Weapons Man to Discourage Violence

Phoenix, Arizona artist Robert Miley is creating a 24-ft. human figure from four tons of melted knives, guns and other weapons. Law enforcement orgs provided confiscated weapons that are discernible at the base of the statue, and congeal into a dark humanoid mass symbolizing a "Release of Fear" -- the title of the piece -- with arms outstretched to the heavens. Oh yeah, it kinda looks like the Phoenix bird, too, being in Phoenix and all....

Release the Fear is a non-profit organization committed to using art to convey messages of peace and anti-violence. The statue will be unveiled in a central Phoenix park in December 2005.
