World's Largest Cedar Bucket Torched by Arsonists
On June 19, the World's Largest Cedar Bucket in Murfreesboro, Tennessee was destroyed by fire apparently set by arsonists. The 118-Year old bucket and sheltering gazebo were burned up in an early morning blaze at the Cannonsburgh Pioneer Village. The fire department extinguished the bucket inferno before it spread to nearby replica 1800s buildings. The giant bucket was a historic landmark, created in 1887. Severely damaged, the bucket is now blackened and splintered charcoal shards held together by metal bands.
This disturbing assault on the world of offbeat tourism occurred only nine days after another deliberate torching incident reported one state eastward, in Garner, North Carolina. Unidentified criminals yanked a beloved, stuffed albino deer from its new park pavilion and set it on fire in a late night attack. [Thanks to Kristi Nelson Bumpus and Edward Owens for tips]
