Psychiatry: An Industry of Death Museum Opens
Scientologists have never been fans of psychiatrists, and vice versa. The latest salvo in this acrimonious relationship is the new Psychiatry: An Industry of Death Museum, which had its grand opening on December 17.
Technically, this slick, multi-million-dollar facility is funded by something called The Citizens Commission on Human Rights -- an organization that is funded by the Scientologists. So objectivity is a little questionable, but there are plenty of pro-psychiatry museums already -- and admission is free.
The museum is in the world's Scientology epicenter, Los Angeles, and a galaxy of B- and C-list Scientologist celebrities turned out -- or were told to turn out -- for the opening. In other words, Tom Cruise stayed home, but Jenna Elfman, Danny and Chris Masterson, and Lisa Marie and Priscilla Presley showed up.
According to the exhibits in the museum, more than 100,000 patients die each year in psychiatric institutions; psychiatrists are responsible for torturing political dissidents (although aren't Tom Cruise's TV appearances also a form of torture?); psychiatrists kill up to 10,000 people a year with electroshock; and 10 to 25 percent of psychiatrists sexually assault their patients.
Psychiatrists, by the way, also deprogram zombie Scientologists, but this is not mentioned in the Museum's press material.
