Corvette Museum: Surrogate Child of the Rich

A retired couple from Sherwood, Wisconsin, has donated $1.3 million to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the largest gift in the museum's history.

The money, from Ivan and Mary Schrodt, will go toward a planned $14 million expansion -- which will include a permanent "Corvette Hall of Fame" -- slated for opening in the summer of 2009.

The Schrodts said that they gave their money to the museum because they have no children and have an affection for Corvettes.

The museum held a reception in the couple's honor, while the Schrodts were in town to pick up their sixth Corvette, a 2007 black Z06.
