Mystery Spot For Sale By Mysterious Sellers
The Teton Mystery Spot, about 12 miles south of Jackson, Wyoming, is for sale on eBay. It is one of two dozen similar swirly-spirals of gravitational discombobulation scattered across America (and Canada), and has been confounding tourists since 1948 (Its powers are ascribed to a mysterious meteor shower). The auction includes "headstones" and "a jailhouse" on the property, as well as the Mystery House, where most of the topsy-turvydom took place.
We've received tips that the Teton Mystery Spot has been closed since 2005, so its sale is not a surprise. What is disturbing, however, is that whoever is selling the Spot is hinting that the property allows for "an expansion of current uses" and that "The current zoning ... would allow the property to be improved, remodeled, or changed in a variety of ways or configurations." Are they suggesting that the mystery spot could be turned into an outlet mall or time-shares condos? The Wonder Spot in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, was recently turned into a road. Teton Mystery Spot's asking price of $1.5 million is also unsettling; it seems to favor diamond-encrusted land developers, not simple stewards of the scientific unknown.
We attempted to contact the sellers to answer our many questions. Their cold reply: "At this time we are interested in a sale only and not additional marketing. If you wish to present an offer we would of course respond."
The auction ends on April 20.
