Weeki Wachee Celebrates 50 Years of Mermaids
Hundreds of veteran mermaids assembled at Florida's Weeki Wachee Spring in early October to celebrate the attraction's 50th anniversary. Since 1947, aquatic beauties have wiggled their charms at tourists behind the thick glass of the submerged theater. Some 1,500 mermaids have performed over the years in Weeki Wachee's imaginative underwater musical extravaganzas.
There is a Mermaid Museum next to the Spring that features video and photos spanning Weeki Wachee's history.
