Vollis Simpson Featured In People -- They Don't Mention His Arrest
North Carolina folk artist and former house mover Vollis Simpson, 79, was celebrated in December 12th's People Magazine. His big scrap metal whirligigs and windmills were called kinetic sculpture and he was praised by the director of the American Museum of Visionary Art.
It is the second time this year Simpson has been in the news. In June, he was arrested by local law enforcement, and charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle, as well as assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Dustin Williams and James Honeycutt, both 17, were treated for their injuries at a nearby hospital and released. Honeycutt was hit by shotgun pellets, and Williams was hit by glass.
Simpson told investigators that he's been bothered for several weeks with people coming onto his property and throwing bottles, setting off fireworks and vandalizing his property.
The incident was not reported by People.
