Winter Welding Progresses at Bishop Castle

Jim Bishop, our favorite one-man castle builder, is hard at work, despite frosty Colorado temperatures. According to the official Bishop Castle web site (www.BishopCastle.org), Jim has entered a frenzied welding fugue state, finishing hand railings the length of the front buttress stairway, leading straight up from the courtyard.

According to the web site, "the Great Hall's balconies now stretch almost all the way to the rear of the castle, wrapping around the Andreatta Tower's (the tallest tower) buttresses like water hugging a coastline. Jim told me the other day that he plans on building a wrought-iron spiral staircase at the rear corner of the balcony. That should alleviate some traffic congestion in the internal stone stairway of Roy's Tower during the summer months."

The folks at Bishop Castle also report two interesting upcoming events: on Memorial Day weekend on Sunday and Monday, a Scottish caber toss in the courtyard, in complete costume. The last weekend in June, they are hosting a Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) event. SCA will be camping out, dressing up in medieval costume and battling.
