Hat 'n Boots restoration project underway

A community organization in the Georgetown section of Seattle is repairing the long neglected Hat 'n Boots gas station. The Georgetown Community Council has raised some fund and recruited volunteers to restore the two buildings and move them to a more attractive space in a public park up the road.

The Hat and Boots were created in 1954 as eye-catching anchors of the Premium Tex gas station, part of a western themed shopping center called Frontier Village. After the interstate diverted traffic, the market eventually closed, but Hat 'n boots continued to pump gas until 1987. Since then, it had been slowly rotting...

The structures will be moved four blocks northeast on Corson Avenue South to a new city park. If you would like to send a tax deductible donation to this project, the address is: Georgetown Community Council, P.O. Box 80021, Seattle, WA 98108.

May 2002: Latest word is the move may happen in the Fall. For the latest Hat 'n boots related information, go to: hatnboots.org.

December 2003: The Hat 'n Boots have been moved to Oxbow Park, Georgetown.
