Big tooth extracted, to be replaced with giant head
The Cleveland Health Education Museum, home of "Juno, the transparent woman," is undergoing radical surgery to save it from a near-fatal case of attendance dropsy. The venerable Cleveland, OH museum had lately failed to bring in the crowds, despite the presence of a giant tooth, large veiny eyeball, and the Theater of Human Sexuality.
The entire building at 8911 Euclid Avenue was demolished in 2001 to make way for a shiny new facility. The designers plan to retire the giant tooth permanently, but promise in its place a 35-ft. tall human head, visible from the street, with seating for 60.
The original museum was created in the 1940s from exhibits used in the 1939 New York World's Fair. The transparent anatomical statue Juno will be installed over the entrance lobby -- we suspect more as a nod to historic significance than as a working display....
The museum is scheduled to open in Fall 2003 with a name that is sure to draw a new audience: HealthSpace Cleveland.
