Statutory Crime: Defaced statues at Birthplace of Public Relations undergoing repair
Two statues at the Ludlow Massacre Monument, Ludlow, Colorado, are being repaired after mindless vandals decapitated them in May, 2003. The granite heads will be replaced, along with an arm severed from the female figure. The monument honors miners, women and children killed in a 1914 labor dispute. Referred to as the Birthplace of Public Relations by Roadside America, media coverage of the massacre is where disaster spin was first honed by John D. Rockefeller.
The statues will be shipped to California, where granite craftspeople will perform the repairs. Donations funded the $80k needed to restore the monument. The statues are expected to be back in place within the year.
