Paul Bunyan Bar destroyed in blaze; Muffler Man survives

A fire in Lakewood, Wisconsin gutted Paul Bunyan's Corner Pub, long a home to a Muffler Man, on February 16. The owner, who went back inside the two-story brick building attempting to save his dog, suffered burns and was treated at a local hospital. The fiberglass Paul Bunyan statue was salvaged intact, and transported to stand in front of the Lakewood Hotel. [Thanks to Jason Scott for the tip]

August 2006: The owner's son corrects this report:"The owner of Paul Bunyan's Bar at the time of the fire didn't go back in the fire to save a dog. He was caught in the fire and barely made it out with his life. He was flown flight for life to the Madison burn center and was in intensive care for two weeks."
