Hee Haw's Minnie Pearl will be remembered with statue

After receiving an anonymous donation of $150,000, a Centerville, Tennessee project to create a statue of legendary country character Minnie Pearl is underway. The larger-than-life bronze will depict the Pearl character as brought to life for over 50 years by Sarah Ophelia Cannon, who died in 1996. Minnie Pearl appeared on Hee Haw, the Grand Ole Opry, and other TV shows. The statue is scheduled to be completed by a Montana sculptor in 2005, for placement in the town's courthouse square.
