Texas college officials approve construction of limestone Stonehenge replica

Officials at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, Odessa, Texas, have approved a plan to build a Stonehenge replica on its campus. The replica will be fashioned from limestone at nearly full-size. It will be exact in horizontal dimensions, and 70% of the height of the original with stones as high as 19 feet.

The plan suggests that construction will be rapid and complete by the end of June 2004. The Odessa Stonehenge will join several other American Stonehenges.

December 2004: Myra Salcedo reports that the Odessa Stonehenge replica has been completed.
