P. T. Barnum Statue
Bridgeport, Connecticut
If you're on the Huckster Heritage Trail in Bridgeport, see the Barnum Museum, then pay your respects at Tom Thumb's grave and P. T. Barnum's grave in Mountain Grove Cemetery. There is also this Barnum Statue in Seaside Park. A statue of Barnum is seated on a chair, elevated on a pedestal facing Long Island Sound. Phineas Taylor Barnum was born in Bethel, Connecticut in 1810, but he spent much time and owned several houses in Bridgeport. The circus wintered here for years. Barnum was elected mayor of Bridgeport in 1875. He owned the land where Seaside Park is, and donated it to the city in 1865. Barnum died in Bridgeport on April 7, 1891.
There are a couple of other memorials in Seaside Park, including an anchor dedicated to "Our Shipmates Lost as Sea."
