Muffler Man - Rodeo Cowboy
Woodstown, New Jersey
Type: Cowboy (22 ft. tall)
Arm position: Standard
Accessories: Pistol, Holster, Stetson Hat
This 22 ft. tall Cowboy Muffler Man is the mascot of the Cowtown Rodeo and Farmer's Market. Cowtown hosts rodeos every weekend in its 4,000-seat arena.
The face on the head is not standard, and may have been custom designed in 1967 to resemble "Marshall Sid," the owner of an auto dealership in Wilmington, Delaware that first employed the giant cowboy. In 1975, the owner of Cowtown acquired the statue at an auction and moved it to the site where it has remained ever since.
In 2005, freak high winds tore off the head and torso of the cowboy, but he was repaired by 2006. The statue is notable for packing a pistol in a hip holster, and wearing a stetson in a state well east of where anyone would wear one other than on Halloween or for laughs.
In the same parking lot as the cowboy, visitors will find a giant cow statue, also photo-worthy.
