Shortest Street in America
Bellefontaine, Ohio
In addition to having the World's Oldest Concrete Street, Bellefontaine has another unusually roadworthy claim to fame: McKinley Street -- named for the President -- only 15 feet long, which the town boasted was the World's Shortest Street. A little sign on a pole made certain that visitors wouldn't miss it.
But in July 2007 Frank Devlin wrote to us about a new World's Shortest Street. According to Frank, "Guinness Book of Records states that the world's shortest street is in Scotland! Ebenezer Place in Wick, Caithness, was measured at six feet nine inches -- yes, six feet nine inches. The Guinness Book of Records entered this in Nov. 2006."
As of 2019 Bellfontaine had replaced its old "World's Shortest Street" sign with one reading, "Shortest Street in America."
