Paul Bunyan and Babe Statues
Eau Claire, Wisconsin
Statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox stand at the entrance to the Paul Bunyan Logging Camp Museum. Paul is 13.5 feet tall, created in 2016 by local firefighter Kim Nessel to replace a deteriorating 10-foot-tall Bunyan that had stood since 1983. It had been attacked and torn down by vandals on Sept. 15, 2002, then restored several months later, his fiberglass legs filled with cretin-resistant concrete. But he ultimately could not survive the elements (and woodpeckers) -- although for some reason the original 1983 Babe has endured just fine.
