Controversial World's Largest Real Muskie
Hayward, Wisconsin
In The Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame's own back yard, a big fish controversy rages. The Moccasin Bar in downtown Hayward displays Cal Johnson's 67 and 1/2 pound muskie. Dun Rovin Lodge, about fifteen miles out of town, claims to exhibit the only 70 pound muskie ever, Bob Malo's 70 lb., 4 oz. monster. Both say they have "The World's Largest." The Hall has made a Solomon-like peace with the warring claims. It recognizes the catch of Art Lawton. Lawton's catch, 69 lbs., 15 oz., was destroyed in a mysterious fire.
We don't know who wins this one. But The Moccasin Bar tips the attraction scales with several absurdly complex stuffed rodent dioramas. Dun Rovin features much more tasteful sportsmen lodge decor.
