Train Town
Sonoma, California
In historic Sonoma County wine country -- something awful for the kids. Train ride-miniature town-petting zoo with a Ferris Wheel and carousel. Ten acres of miniature railroad fun built in the 1950s. Twenty minutes to do the complete train journey and see all the quarter-scale buildings, scrubby trees and duck citizens.
A winding wooded course takes you over bridges and through tunnels to the "Minitown Petting Zoo," where the train stops for five minutes of frantic petting. Speakers hidden in Minitown blare the "All Aboard " call so you don't get left behind. The engineer remains silent for the entire trip, and directs passenger attention to each sight along the way by tooting the train whistle over and over.
Near the back of the Traintown acreage, fleeting glimpses of adjacent housing developments become not-so-fleeting. The kids'll love it all...
